The steering system is a crucial component of a vehicle, which enables the movement of a vehicle. The main function of a steering system is to allow the driver to control the direction of the vehicle by turning the wheels. The steering system acts as a mechanical interface between the driver and the wheels, allowing for precise control over the vehicle's movement. It also ensures that the vehicle is in driver’s control, enabling safe and efficient navigation on the road. A Steering System is typically made up of the following parts:

• Steering Wheel: This is the primary control interface for the driver. It allows you to turn the vehicle by rotating the steering column.
• Steering Column: This connects the steering wheel to the steering gear. It houses the steering shaft and may include components like the ignition switch and turn signal controls.
• Steering Gear (Rack and Pinion or Steering Box): This is the heart of the steering system. It translates the rotational motion of the steering column into the linear motion needed to turn the wheels. Rack and pinion systems are common in modern vehicles, while older vehicles might use a steering box.
• Tie Rods: These connect the steering gear to the steering knuckles. They transmit the movement from the steering gear to the wheels, causing them to turn.
• Steering Knuckles: Also known as spindles, these connect to the wheels and allow them to pivot for steering.
• Pitman Arm: Found in steering box systems, the pitman arm converts the rotational motion of the steering box into the movement of the center link.
• Idler Arm: This supports the center link on the opposite side of the pitman arm, ensuring smooth movement.
