RABINDRANATH TOGORE
Indian Poet, Writer, Philosopher, and Artist
Rabindranath Tagore was a renowned Indian poet, writer, philosopher, and artist who greatly influenced literature and culture. He was born in Kolkata on 7 May 1861 and died on 7 August 1941. However, some old records and calendar conversions mention 9 May as his birth date, which creates confusion among people. Because of the difference between the Bengali calendar and the Gregorian calendar used during that time, both dates are sometimes discussed, though 7 May 1861 is officially accepted. Tagore became the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his famous work Gitanjali. Through his poems, songs, stories, and essays, he spread messages of humanity, peace, and love for nature, and he also founded Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan to promote education and culture.
